Boudewyn Bach;

After a practical
spell working in civil engineering and road construction, Bach
switched to urban planning. He followed the Amsterdam Academy of
Architecture to broaden his knowledge, moving on to qualify as
an urban planning engineer at Delft University of Technology. He
worked at three urban planning agencies where he was involved in
zoning and structure plans, rural and urban conservation areas,
working with Municipal Design Committees and was one of the
first urban planner who practised the Dutch woonerf* concept (in
Anglo Saxon: home zones). After his appointment as senior member
of the scientific staff working for the Eo Wijers Chair and his
successors at the Faculty of Architecture, Department of
Urbanism at Delft University of Technology. Bach spent a period
working as a visiting lecturer abroad, including a Fulbright
Lecturing Tour from Harvard in Cambridge (Massachusetts) and a
Gambrinius scholarship at Dortmund University of Technology in
Germany.
Bach studies the
relationship between traffic and urban planning, focusing on
aspects such as the significance of arcades, cycle networks,
mobility patterns, stations and high-quality public transport in
the urban structure. He regularly takes part in advisory
committees set up by the Traffic Technology Foundation and its
successor the Information and Technology Platform for
Infrastructure, Traffic, Transport and Public Space (CROW). He
organises courses in traffic engineering as part of
post-academic education. Other activities include an incidental
consultative practice, administrative duties on road safety
bodies, membership of Bloemendaal municipal council and
assisting in the development of the 'Local Traffic Performance'
model. Bach is currently a member of the broadcast advisory
committee of the 3VO (since 2006 VVN) road safety organisation
and of the Amsterdam Urban Development Council. He is also
project co-ordinator at the City & Traffic Foundation (Stad &

Na een praktijkperiode in de civiele techniek en de wegenbouw is Boudewyn overgestapt naar de stedenbouw. In avondopleiding werd de kennis verbreed op de Academie van Bouwkunst te Amsterdam en later aangevuld met het diploma stedenbouwkundig ingenieur TU-Delft.
Achtereenvolgens vanuit drie stedenbouwkundige bureaus deed hij bestemmings- en structuurplannen, beschermde dorps- en stadsgezichten, welstand en woonerfaanpak. Na de aanstelling als Wetenschappelijk Hoofdmedewerker bij de leerstoel van Eo Wyers volgde een periode met regelmatig gastdocentschappen in het buitenland, ondermeer een Fulbright Lectering Tour vanuit Harvard.
De nadruk van Bach's onderzoek ligt op de samenhang verkeer <> stedenbouw, ondermeer de betekenis van passages, fietsnetwerken, verplaatsingspatronen, stations en hoogwaardig-OV in de stadsplattegrond. Regelmatig nam hij deel aan SVT en later aan CROW-begeleidingscommissies en organiseerde hij Post Academiale cursussen Verkeerskunde PAO. Daarnaast speelde een incidentele adviespraktijk, bestuurlijke taken bij verkeersveiligheidsorganen, lidmaatschap van de gemeenteraad Bloemendaal en medewerking aan de ontwikkeling van de 'Vervoersprestatie op Locatie'. Momenteel heeft hij zitting in de Programma Raad 3VO en de Amsterdamse Raad voor de Stadsontwikkeling en adviseert hij de Stichting Stad en Verkeer.
